Afghan Hospitality Ministry

FUMC Tulsa has made a long-term commitment to come alongside Afghan families to show our hospitality and assist them through the transition to living in the United States.

Update:

The AHM continues to grow! We are now supporting nine families, with eight Core Couples/Support Teams, representing 41 refugees plus two soon-to-arrive babies.
Our church ministry continues to grow. Opportunities to volunteer have been expanded in two areas. Church members are encouraged to form a small team to come alongside the one of the 150+ families in or soon-to-be in permanent housing or volunteer to participate in (ESL) English training.

Family Support Teams

There are 150+ families in or soon-to-be in permanent housing that do not have Support Teams like the nine support teams that our church has already formed. Churches in the greater Tulsa area are forming teams to come alongside the families to help them through the transition. Would you like to form a team from within our church? If so, simply reach out to a few of your church friends. A team can be as few as four people and as many as eight. Training will be provided. If you are interested, contact Tracey Hall, FUMC Afghan Hospitality Ministry Liaison, at  [email protected].

ESL (English as a Second Language)

Welcomers International has established a teaching facility in the neighborhood of several of our families. Would you like to become an ESL teacher or simply a volunteer? Here is how: email Kathleen Byrd at [email protected] and request an application. The process includes a background check and training.
