Prayer is the Essential Work
Did you know that we have approximately 50 intercessors who pray for Eugene Field Elementary every week? Many send encouragement cards and small gifts to teachers and staff, reminding them we are standing with them and surrounding them in prayer.
On the Wednesday before school started, we kicked off nine weeks of prayer walking. We will be meeting at the school every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. for at least the first nine weeks of school to pray.
On the first trip around the school, we praised God for his goodness, grace, provision and faithfulness over the years in the school and surrounding community.
The second and third time, we prayed for hope, joy, purpose, wisdom, protection/safety, provision, violence/abuse, healing, unity, transformation, influence, Gospel/Jesus…Each of us chose a word to pray as we walked around the school, and then we shared what we prayed, what we heard from God…a scripture or thought that came to mind.
Myrna and Johnnie Parks put together some encouragement bags for the staff, so we prayed over those, boldly asking for God’s anointing on them and that as each person received their gift, they would sense God’s presence, love, peace and provision. We then put them in the teachers/staff mailboxes trusting that God heard our prayers and would answer.
We are actively recruiting intercessors for the 2020-2021 school year. There are a couple of different ways you can support Eugene Field with your prayers. You can sign up to be on our intercessor list and we will send you prayer updates so that you can continue to pray throughout the year.
You can also sign up to be an intercessor for a Eugene Field staff member. We will give you someone to pray for throughout the school year and ask that you send an occasional card to let them know you are keeping them in prayer.
Prayer is the essential work.
In a letter to Eugene Field families, Principal Angela Callahan said, “this year we will be GOING THE DISTANCE TOGETHER.” She was referring to distance learning. We can align with this goal as we “Go the Distance TOGETHER” with one another and with our Eugene Field family, walking alongside them, supporting and encouraging them in prayer and other tangible ways. It is difficult in these times where we cannot always be together, and we feel far apart. But we know nothing is impossible with God and there is no distance in prayer.
The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]. James 5:16, AMP
